The Oregonian is returning
to its roots as a broadsheet newspaper after 10 years as a compact-size publication, the Oregonian Media Group has announced.
The shift, which will occur in January, is tied to a change
in the online platform, according to OregonLive, the online edition. The newspaper will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2025.
“We’ve made a capital investment to
make this possible with our current print production partner,” says John Maher, regional president and publisher of The Oregonian/OregonLive. “This change allows our teams to
better align content with our new online newspaper platform, which will debut in mid-January.”
Maher adds that the Oregonian’s print ad sizes will
change with the move to broadsheet. “We will make that information available to our clients in the weeks to come,” he adds.

The publication appears in
print four days a week, on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The online edition is published seven days per week.
“When we last surveyed readers about this
possible change, most were positive or neutral about a broadsheet,” said Maher. “I’m sure some will celebrate our return to the traditional broadsheet format and the downstream
benefits of this investment will absolutely enhance our subscribers’ experience.”
The Oregonian's sister publication, The Star-Ledger of New Jersey, has
abandoned print entirely.
