The Independent claims it is now the largest U.K.-bred news site in the U.S., surpassing the Daily Mail/Mail Online and The Guardian.
The U.S. audience has doubled to 41.4 million over the past year, the Independent states, quoting Comscore numbers.
The publication pulled over 21.7 million new U.S. readers and added more than 120 million page views per month in September.
“This is a triumphal moment for the US team lead by Louise Thomas, our US Editor, who left MailOnline to join us earlier this year,” says Geordie Greig, editor in chief of The Independent. “We are grateful to all our readers in America for putting their faith in The Independent at a time when independent journalism has never been more needed.’’

The Independent is adding new lifestyle verticals such as travel, automotive (EV-focused), and a dedicated U.S. URL (the-independent.com).
The new readers are 58% more likely than other consumers to discuss diversity and inclusion and 128% more prone to identify as individuals who embrace change, the publication states.
The
Independent also says it ranks fifth among comparable news brands with a print history, behind The New York Times, USA Today, NY Post Network and The Washington
Post.
