A list of the Top 10 most-read TV Blogs of 2024 has me contemplating the challenge a journalist faces when choosing topics that he hopes readers will be interested in.

I like to think I have a skill for this -- the choosing of topics, I mean. This is not a boast. I am skilled at little else, but this particular talent has served me well.

At the same time, this list has me marveling at the randomness of it all. It starts out with a TV Blog from last February on the news that ABC would spin off a female version of “The Golden Bachelor” -- “The Golden Bachelorette.” It aired this fall.

In terms of its news value, it was a great story, but No. 1 on the list? I would not have guessed that one. 

Plus, I wrote three other columns on “The Golden Bachelorette” that did not make this list, nor were they in the top 20. 

But for some reason, the first one on “The Golden Bachelorette” not only made the list, but it was the most-read TV Blog of the year. Go figure!

Elsewhere on the Top 10 list, the subjects were “Shogun,” “My 600-lb Life,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Super Bowl commercials, an animated medical comedy, early Upfront announcements, the Disney board battle, “Abbott Elementary” and a rumination on the origins of reality TV.
