The Des Moines Register and its owner Gannett have won a round in the election-interference case filed against them last week by incoming President Donald Trump.  

They have succeeded in having the case removed from the District Court of Polk Country court to the U.S. District Court. 

This move to a federal court, where the defense will or will not get a fairer shake, is made possible by what Above The Law calls a legal “trick.” 

The Trump side served Gannett with the suit, but not the local defendants, as required, Above The Law reports. 

Trump accuses pollster Ann Selzer, The Des Moines Register and Gannett of “brazen election interference,” based on a poll by Selzer that put Kamala Harris 16 points ahead of Trump in Iowa, as Reuters reported.  

Trump comfortably won Iowa and enough of the rest of the country to be elected. The Selzer poll, which was published three days before the election, obviously didn’t affect the race.
