A day ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration, TikTok published a notice apologizing to U.S. users for going dark, but said "we are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!"
The notice echoed a post by Trump on his own social media platform -- Truth Social -- also calling on followers to "stay tuned!"
"The Supreme Court decision was expected, and everyone must respect it. My decision on TikTok will be made in the not too distant future, but I must have time to review the situation. Stay tuned!," Trump posted Friday, implying that he may be planning to intervene on TikTok's behalf.
The president-elect was referring to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold a new law, which is the first ever in the U.S. banning a social media platform (listen to the oral arguments here).

The law -- "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act" -- ironically was originally proposed by Trump in 2020, while he was still president serving his first term in office.
While Trump already has indicated a heavy agenda for his first days in office, including numerous new executive orders, his pledge for a massive illegal immigrant deportation campaign, etc., it's unclear exactly how he would intervene on TikTok's behalf and when, but has made statements that he could issue an order calling for a "90-day extension" for TikTok, which would at least buy it another three months of service for U.S. users, many of whom have already begun migrating to other social apps, including other Chinese-owned ones.
