The New York Times added 250,000 digital-only
subscribers in the first quarter, and now has 11.86 subscribers overall, including 600,000 print. It is aiming for 15 million by the end of 2027.
These numbers were
announced on Wednesday with the paper’s Q1 financials, showing total revenue of $636 million -- a 7.1 increase YoY, as reported in the Times.
Digital advertising revenue
grew by 12.4% in Q1 to $70.9 million. Total ad revenue total hit $108.1 million, a 4.2% hike.
Operating profit was tallied at $92.7 million, 21.9% higher
than the same quarter in 2024, the Times reported.
The Athletic, now the Times sports franchise, generated $47.6 million during the quarter, a jump of
27.9%.
Ad revenue increased by 82.5% to $10.4 million.
