Chuck E Cheese’s Charles “Entertainment” Cheese, its friendly oversized rodent mascot, is apparently ready for his close-up.

The brand’s parent company, CEC Entertainment, has begun production on “The Chuck E. Cheese Christmas Special,” the first-ever original animated special from the children’s entertainment brand and restaurant chain. A holiday season airdate will be announced later this year.

The show, a collaboration with family media company HappyNest Entertainment, “is not just a seasonal moment—it’s the beginning of a long-term vision to transform beloved (Chuck E. Cheese) characters into a storytelling universe for today’s kids and families,” per the brand.

“This is more than just a TV special—it’s a milestone moment for the Chuck E. Cheese brand,” said Melissa McLeanas, vice president of global media, licensing and entertainment at Chuck E. Cheese, in the announcement. “We’re entering the entertainment arena in a way that builds on our nostalgic legacy while charting a new future for our characters as a storytelling franchise.”

The show will feature a new original Christmas song co-written by Jon Colton Barry, Zac Moncrief, composer Ben Bromfield (“Ginny & Georgia”), and Barry’s father, Jeff Barry, who is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee for his work on the hits “I’m a Believer” for the Monkees, “Sugar Sugar” for the Archies and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” Mariah Carey’s Christmas anthem.

The voice actors are also vets of such shows and films such as “iCarly,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Uncharted,” “Rick & Morty” and “Kung Fu Panda 2.”
