Buy Local: Flyer Brings 200 H-E-B Tortillas Aboard

A teenage flyer has gone viral after sharing a TikTok video of herself bringing 200 tortillas onto a plane in Texas.

In the video, the passenger is seen standing at the back of the line at a TSA security checkpoint. In lettering across the bottom, she wrote: “All these people and no one knows i have 200 HEB tortillas in my backpack.”

H-E-B is a grocery chain with locations in Texas and Mexico.

“The grocer is famous for fresh, locally sourced items, including, you guessed it, tortillas,” according to Yahoo Creators. “Apparently, [the flyer] found them so delicious that they couldn’t resist the urge to take a few home. And in this case, a few translated to 200.”

When H-E-B heard about the teen's TikTok, the company commented on the TikTok post: “Gotta keep those in the carry on. Don’t want to chance them getting misplaced,” according to USA Today.

The flyer, Anna Jones, 17,  replied and let the company know she could always use more tortillas. As of June 20, she hasn’t heard back.

“Because there is no H-E-B near her in Tennessee, Jones makes sure she stocks up when she visits Texas, she said, adding that she and her father have done this at least three times,” per USA Today

H-E-B fans were quick to react and endorse her decision.

“The post has racked up more than 76,900 likes and 642,000 views, and thousands of comments from fellow Texans who say they also travel with their favorite home-state groceries,” according to KHOU-11. “‘As a Texan living out of state, I absolutely get it,’ one commenter wrote. ‘They don’t make tortillas like that anywhere else,” another added.’”

Future passengers who want to bring tortillas on flights need not worry about breaking any rules.

“It turns out TSA officers do have a sense of humor, at least when it comes to tortillas,” according to Yahoo Creators. “In fact, TSA has addressed this very issue in the past with a playful post on the platform x that stated,

‘Traveling with a bag full of tortillas? Wrap yourself in the knowledge they’re good to go! Have you ever taken flight with a carry-on full of food?’’

Southwest Airlines states that TSA has a list of approved items travelers can put in checked or carry-on bags, per USA Today. Bread and other solid food items are permitted, per the database.
