AOL Dials Down Dial-Up (Yes, That's Still A Thing)

Nearly 40 years after America Online (now AOL) introduced its dial-up online access service, the company announced plans to shut it down, effective Sept. 30.

"This change will not affect any other benefits in your AOL plan," the company assured subscribers.

AOL currently is part of Yahoo, which is owned by private equity firm Apollo Global Management (90%) and Verizon (10%).
