The Orange County suburb of Brea just outside Los Angeles is
getting a first-of-its-kind arcade experience.
CEC Entertainment, Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company, will open the 10th Chuck’s Arcade in the Brea Mall on Aug. 22.
The new location will be the first “clawcade” of the 10, where skill-based claw games (in which a joystick-controlled claw picks up prizes) comprise nearly half of the arcade’s
3,600-square-foot footprint. The machines will feature games with prizes like plushies and collectibles from such high-profile properties as DC Comics, Hello Kitty and Nintendo, among others.
“We’ve been perfecting the art of arcade entertainment for nearly five decades, and Chuck’s Arcade represents the next chapter in that story,” says David McKillips, CEO of
Chuck E. Cheese.

The Brea Mall Clawcade is rounded out with more contemporary video, racing and sports trivia games, as well as retro classics such as Ms. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat. And
there’s the yet-to-be-announced reintroduction of a Chuck E. Cheese “historic animatronic character that will preside over the arcade.”
The Chuck’s Arcade concept skews
more towards adults and “lifelong fans who grew up under the electric glow of the neighborhood arcade,” according to the company. Arcades began opening in June, with locations that include
St. Petersburg, Florida; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Salem, New Hampshire; and Kansas City, Missouri.
The brand is promoting the new concept locations on its social media platforms and via a
new website at www.chucksarcade.fun. For the Brea opening, the company is holding an online contest to give 100 fans access to the new clawcade with 100
free play points.
