Roblox, which recently became the
world’s largest gaming platform by concurrent users, is nearing a boiling point with regard to child safety issues -- with over 250,000 people calling for CEO David Baszucki to resign.
The petition, posted three weeks ago by Change.org, says that Baszucki is
“ultimately responsible for the safety and integrity of the platform” but has failed to act proactively and effectively in response to concerns regarding children and teens.
“In many cases predators have remained on the platform for weeks or longer, even after being reported,” the petition alleges. “This delay puts children at
further risk.”

Aligning with other recent lawsuits and reports, Change.org states that Baszucki’s
responses have remained “vague and corporate” while Roblox has allowed the circulation of dangerous content despite user reports, punishes whistleblowers, and ignores calls for reform.
Baszucki told BBC News earlier this year that parents who are uncomfortable with the platform and its approach to child safety should not allow their children to
use it.
“If nothing changes, this pattern of negligence will continue and more children will be hurt,” the petition adds.
Since Bloomberg’s November report, which deemed Roblox “an X-rated pedophile hellscape,” the immersive gaming platform has experienced a significant rise in
complaints and lawsuits regarding the wellbeing of minors.
Earlier this month, the Attorney General of Louisiana, Liz Murrill, filed a lawsuit against Roblox,
accusing the platform -- which she called the “perfect place for pedophiles” -- of failing to implement basic safety controls.
Only last November
-- 18 years into its history as a gaming platform -- did Roblox begin to implement content ratings and barring users under the age of 13 from chatting with other users outside of the platform.
However, as Murrill highlighted in her lawsuit, there is an ease at which adults can pose as children to prey on underage users in
sexually explicit Roblox gaming experiences, including “Escape to Epstein Island,” “Diddy Party,” and “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe.”
Recent lawsuits also stem from families of children and teens facing severe emotional harm as a result of contact with predators through Roblox game play. One of the latest
complaints involves a 10-year-old in Michigan exploited by a predator who sent sexually explicit images of himself.
Regardless of these mounting public concerns, Roblox has reached the pinnacle of social gaming, reaching 47.4 million total concurrent users over the weekend due to the unprecedented popularity around in-game experiences like “Steal a Brainrot” and “Grow a
Garden.”
In response, Roblox has expanded its policies with regard to romantic and sexual content,
but has not yet addressed the petition.
