Chipotle Tackles The College Athlete Scene With Freebies, Endorsements

Student athletes at the University of Florida, University of Georgia and Ohio State University are in luck this school year, as the fortunate recipients of a customized Chipotle Card. The silver foiled card will get those students free Chipotle for “the duration of their respective athletic seasons,” according to the brand.

The freebies are limited to one entrée per week for 15 weeks, and are available to every scholarship and walk-on student athlete.

This marks the second season of the brand’s student athlete program, which originally rolled out with Ohio State University in the 2024-25 season and is now expanding to those Florida and Georgia schools for the upcoming season.

The three schools are among the top 30 four-year universities whose students eat the most Chipotle, with their athletes showing the strongest passion for the chain. In fact, a recent study by the brand found “98% of student athletes at The Ohio State University eat Chipotle at least once a month, 94% of University of Florida student athletes consider Chipotle to be one of their top three favorite restaurants, and nearly 80% of University of Georgia student athletes consider Chipotle to be an important part of their training regimen.”

"By expanding our college card program to three universities this academic year, we're democratizing NIL (name, image, likeness) for nearly 2,000 student athletes and increasing their access to real food when they need it the most," says Chris Brandt, president, chief brand officer at Chipotle.

As part of the NIL program, which lets student athletes be compensated for endorsements,  athletes from Ohio State and University of Florida will be featured in two spots. The first ad, seen here, features The Ohio State University football team players safety Caleb Downs, linebacker Sonny Styles and wide receiver Carnell Tate. A second spot will feature University of Florida quarterback DJ Lagway and former University of Florida basketball guard Walter Clayton Jr.

The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation has established a new scholarship for in-state students attending The Ohio State University's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, as well as giving more than $100,000 in undergraduate research awards to agricultural, farming and food programs at the University of Florida College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
