September 9 is the kickoff for El Pollo Loco’s National Chicken Month activities, beginning with a buy one, get one (BOGO) free deal worth $1 million.

El Pollo Loco Rewards members can get a BOGO for the 2-Piece Leg & Thigh Meal all day on Sept. 9. The BOGO offer is good while supplies last until the chain reaches $1 million in redemptions.

The chain is also awarding one customer the ultimate prize – a lifetime worth of free El Pollo Loco chicken. To enter the challenge, customers can use the AI program of their choice “to create their biggest, boldest, most loco, original fire grilled chicken-inspired creations.”

Customers must then post their creation to their Instagram or TikTok with the hashtag #LocoAI, then follow @elpolloloco as well as tag @elpolloloco in the post. They earn one entry per hashtagged post. 

“Chicken is in our name – it’s who we are and what we do. That’s why we’re proud to put our stamp on National Chicken Month, especially as we celebrate our 50th anniversary,” said El Pollo Loco CMO Jill Adams. “This is … a moment to reward our fans with free chicken in a fun and playful way ...”

The chain also has several upcoming offers for the month of September, including a National Quesadilla Day deal on Sept. 25, and a yet-to-be-announced limited time offer menu addition. The brand is promoting the month-long deals and contest via Instagram  and other social media platforms.
