The American Journalism Project (AJP)
is offering a resource to assist local news outlets in determining which artificial intelligence tools they should be using through its Product & AI Studio.
The
quarterly Field Guide: AI for Local Reporting will detail what each tool does, who is using it and how.
AJP has provided grants and worked with news organizations and
vendor partners to lead experiments and workflows with AI.
In addition, AJP has pulled together a group of AI vendors that meet highly specific needs and some that
promise long-term and regular use in local newsrooms.
Each profile includes a summary of its service, including “recommended use cases, pros and cons, and what makes it different
from other tools,” AJP says.
In one use case, Chalkbeat -- which covers the New York City school system with only two reporters -- applied Local Lens, an Ai-powered public meeting
database. This enabled the Chalkbeat reporters to analyze transcripts, track keywords and cover parental concerns.
