Denny's Creates 'Sticky Kicks,' Syrup-Filled Sneakers For National Maple Syrup Day

Sneaker collabs are nothing new for chain restaurants, but Denny’s latest drop may be a lot stickier than others.

Last week the brand released Sticky Kicks, which it touts as the “World’s First Sneakers Made with Real Syrup,” in honor of National Maple Syrup Day on Dec. 17.

The limited-edition high-top shoes, which contain actual maple syrup-filled clear sealed pockets, also features syrup-colored patent leather, yellow accents and the Denny’s logo embossed on the heel, “making them equal parts diner art and streetwear statement.”

“Sticky Kicks are impractical, unnecessary and completely over the top, which is exactly why we love them,” says Ellie Doty, senior vice president and chief brand officer at Denny’s, in a release.  “At Denny’s, syrup isn’t just something we serve. It’s part of who we are. It’s our golden thread. It only makes sense we’d be the first to turn it into fashion.”

This “fashion” isn’t edible, though, as the brand comically warns purchasers, “Do not puncture the shoes or eat the syrup from the shoes for any reason. These drips are for style only, so leave it that way.”

The Sticky Kicks are the brand’s latest move to  “merge diner culture with pop culture in unexpected ways.”

The kicks were created in collaboration with footwear artist and designer Mache and drop at 12 P.M., Dec. 17 at Denny’s merch site, DinerDrip.com. They will be available in adult men’s sizes 8-13 and sell for $195.

Denny’s Rewards members will get the opportunity to snag a pair of the kicks one hour before others through a special code sent to them which unlocks the site earlier.

The brand is promoting the Sticky Kicks via its social media platforms @DennysDiner.
