After more than five decades broadcast
exclusively by Disney's ABC TV network, the Oscars awards telecast will switch to a new, exclusive broadcast partner, effective in 2029: Google's YouTube platform.
Terms of the new agreement
were not disclosed, but YouTube announced that the Oscars will be broadcast exclusively on the platform "for free globally," and on YouTube TV in the U.S., as well as the awards show's obligatory red
carpet and behind-the-scenes coverage.
The deal includes YouTube access to the Oscar's "Governors Ball," and digital access to the TV Academy Museum exhibitions and help digitizing its
collection.
“Partnering with The Academy will inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars’ storied legacy,"
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said in a statement.
