Stella McCartney is best
known for her eponymous fashion house, which pioneered the category of cruelty-free, sustainable luxury fashion products. And, oh yeah, being the daughter of Beatle Paul McCartney. But she may well
add a third accolade: Hollywood TV producer, following this morning’s Cannes Lions presentaton with eBay CEO Jamie Iannone.
After hearing from how eBay has built thriving
communities of people trading odd and sometimes idiosyncratic items on the platform – ““We’ve tried to sell a grilled cheese
sandwich with Jesus on it,” Iannone, quipped – she began formulating a studio pitch right there on the Palais stage.
“This is a reality TV program waiting to
start,” McCartney pitched, adding, “I want to know about the weirdest things going on on eBay.”

Maybe it was because today also happens to be Global Beatles Day, or maybe it was because Iannone’s grilled cheese Jesus anecdote rang a bell for her, but
McCartney then shared an eBay-esque moment she had with her father years ago.
“When I was young, I remember like Christie’s or some auction house was selling a piece of
John Lennon’s toast that a maid had gotten from his hotel in the 60s and it went for like a hundred thousand pounds or something,” she said, adding, “I remember coming down to
breakfast that morning with my dad. We were eating breakfast and we were like, ‘Dad, I think you’ve finished that toast, right?’ We were kind of clasping at his food. That’s a
kind of eBay story.”
