Just An Online Minute... Tying the Knot

  • by February 27, 2004
The Knot, the online destination for people who are planning their nuptials, has scored a Best of the Internet award from PC Magazine. TheKnot.com is a great website - it has chat features, a gift registry, shopping areas, contest opportunities, and offers just about any kind of advice someone who is getting married might need from choosing invitations and rings, to reception etiquette and honeymoon ideas. Who knew there was so much information like this on the Web all in one place? It's also a great-looking site.

TheKnot.com also has a same-sex area covering commitment ceremonies and other topics of interest to gay couples.

With gay marriage the topic of watercooler conversation just about everywhere, TheKnot and sites like it are in a great position to rack up traffic and attention as viable resources. Special interest sites like PlanetOut.com are also key resources.

Online publishers and marketers would be wise to pay attention to gay demographics by using more targeted outreach and promotion. The spending power of gay Americans is expected to reach $608 billion by 2007, according to PlanetOut via public relations firm Witeck Combs. Marketers and media people who ignore this demographic, are ignoring a growing and important population that's evolving rapidly - even as we speak.
