The New York Times has hired Michael Hirschorn as media columnist as the column returns in the face of numerous problems facing the industry, including a
media-hostile White House, the Times reports. Earlier media columnists were David Carr, who started the column two decades ago, Jim Rutenberg and Ben Smith. Hirschorn, who in 2008
wrote that the Times could “plausably go out of business,” writes that he is “thrilled to have not only been proven wrong, but so wrong; that the Times was able to hire
him.
