Absolut Partners With Artist Kaws For Special Edition Bottle

Absolut’s latest bottle collaboration is a partnership with a contemporary mixed-media artist.

The brand has tapped Kaws for the bottle art for its ongoing Artist Edition series. Kaws created an original artwork for the brand, which was then translated to the packaging. The multicolor bottle features the artist's  “XX” design and “Chum” character on the front, and an image of the original painting on the back.

Kaws is best known for combining fine art, design and popular culture across painting, sculpture and large-scale public installations such as The Traveling Kaws: Holiday Series, which featured oversized inflatable versions of the artist’s “Companion” character relaxing in unusual places around the world. His work has been shown in the Albertina Modern in Vienna, the Serpentine Gallery in London, the Brooklyn Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

“Our collaboration with Kaws reimagines the iconic Absolut bottle as a witty, unexpected work of art that feels at home on a collector's shelf or at the center of a gathering with friends,” said Caroline Begley, U.S. vice president of marketing for Absolut, in a release. “The new Artist Edition is a bold expression of Absolut's longstanding creative legacy and our belief that great art should be accessible to everyone. By bringing KAWS' vision to one of our most iconic assets, we're creating a cultural statement piece that celebrates creativity, self-expression and the power of art to connect people.”

A short film, seen here, featuring an oversized rooftop “Chum," Kaws' parody of the Michelin Man,  promotes the new bottle across the brand’s socials.

Andy Warhol kicked off Absolut’s Artist Collection more than 40 years ago with the design of the “Absolut Warhol” pop art bottle. The brand has since collaborated with over 550 artists who have contributed more than 850 artworks inspired by Absolut Vodka bottle.

The Absolut Kaws Artist Edition bottle is rolling out at select retailers across the U.S. and is also available for order online while supplies last.
