Just An Online Minute... MySpace Teams with Nylon

  • by May 22, 2006
Today, The New York Times reports that MySpace.com has teamed up with Nylon magazine to release a free digital edition of its June-July music issue. MySpace, in case you didn't know, has proven itself an enticing venue for bands and musicians.

Nylon, a trendsetting magazine that covers music and fashion, plans to release a  free digital edition of its music issue with MySpace on Wednesday. The issue will be available for downloading at the magazine's Web site and is identical to the print version. Notably, the print issue won't be available until May 31.  So here's a case where a digital issue leads a print edition. We like that.

The digital and print versions include links to MySpace pages featuring bands, artists, and designers mentioned in the magazine. Readers are encouraged to listen to featured music on MySpace. It's about time that print media linked up with outlets like MySpace. While the collaboration between Nylon and MySpace makes good sense, there's no reason why it wouldn't work with other traditional outlets, provided they're hip enough and have the kind of content MySpacers want.

The music issue constitutes Nylon's first digital issue. The magazine plans to  offer digital issues for 99 cents, as well as yearly digital subscriptions for $4.95.
