Just An Online Minute... Survey: College Students Web-Happy

It's well-known by now that college students spend a lot of time on the Web. Between reading articles, visiting MySpace, and checking out video clips, around four in 10 students spend at least 10 hours a week online, according to a study released this week by Experience.

For the study, Experience recently surveyed 350 students about their media habits. Forty-three percent of respondents said they go online at least 10 hours a week, while 31 percent spend between six and 10 hours a week online and 19 percent visit the Web for three to five hours a week,

By contrast, just 17 percent said they watch TV more than 10 hours a week, and a mere 1 percent spend 10 hours a week reading magazines or newspapers.

The survey also examined students' attitudes towards ads. Forty percent said they're most likely to respond to an ad laced with humor, but fully 28 percent said they like fact-based ads.

Experience also indicated that ads are more influential when they appear in more than one medium. Thirty-six percent of the students surveyed said they are more likely to respond if an ad appears in at least two forms of media, such as the Web and a newspaper; 14 percent said they would more likely respond if the ad appeared in three or more forms of media.
