Heavy.com Unveils 'Angels' Channel

Broadband video site Heavy.com Wednesday unveiled its newest channel, "Heavy's Angels," featuring clips submitted by 20 female video creators.

The 20 selected "angels" were among hundreds of applicants who submitted original videos to their MyHeavy.com profiles this summer. Each week, the vloggers will upload new clips, and those that draw the most views per month will win prizes--including a Honda Civic, a Mini Cooper, and a Scion TC.

The site does not have any specific sponsors yet, and the ads on the site are similar to those running across the Heavy.com property, including spots for Comedy Central's fall lineup and Foster's beer. The site's sales team is in discussions with brands to sponsor the channel, but no deals have been finalized yet, a spokesman for Heavy.com said. Other advertisers already in Heavy.com's stable include Burger King, Diesel, Axe, Sony and Nike.

Heavy.com's popularity has been growing rapidly, according to research firm Hitwise. The site's market share for entertainment video sites increased 657 percent in the last year. Now that Google has purchased YouTube, Heavy.com is the largest independent broadband network, according to Hitwise.
