ABC 'Dancing' On Tuesday, Fox Safe At Second

Fox's "House" is now back in the house, but its "Standoff" stood down.

Fox's move of "Standoff" to the 8 p.m. time slot from its 9 p.m. start time did what analysts more or less expected--limped across the finish line on Tuesday with a humble Nielsen preliminary 2.0 rating/6 share. That was well off the 3.4/9 rating it had from a "House" lead-in back in September, before the start of the baseball playoffs.

Still, Fox did well--a strong second-place 3.9/11, highlighted with a 5.8/15 outing from "House" at 9 p.m., the best-rated program of the night.

ABC won the night with its usual big numbers from "Dancing With the Stars" from 8 to 9:30 p.m., which rang up a 5.3/15 in the key 18-49 demo. After that, things weren't so good on the alphabet network: "Help Me Help You" sank a bit to a 2.7/7 from a 3.2/8 the week before. "Boston Legal" did a 3.0/8, just about the same as a week before. Overall, ABC took in a 4.1/11.

CBS started the night off in typical fashion--getting a 3.9/11 from "NCIS." It then slipped down a bit with "The Unit," a 3.2/8 at 9 p.m. Program analysts feel that the return of "House" had some impact.

NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" did the best for the Peacock network with a 4.7/13 in 18-49. Later in the evening, its sister show, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," could only muster a 2.7/7. NBC didn't start off well--a repeat of "Friday Night Lights" pulled a 1.6/5 in 18-49. Overall, NBC grabbed a fourth-place 3.0/8.

Rounding out the evening: Univision was fifth with a 1.4/4, and then CW at a 1.2/3.
