Late last week, Delta Air Lines played musical chairs with its marketing team, moving marketing vice president Joanne Smith to senior vice president/in-flight service and global product development;
replacing her with Tim Mapes, managing director/marketing and cultural transformation; and moving Sandy Gordon, managing director of in-flight service, to in-flight service operations and training
vice president.
A year ago, Smith stepped in for executive vice president/chief marketing officer Paul Matsen, who quit days after telling the press the company's international
expansion strategy would rely on a clearer branding message. A news release issued last week about the aforementioned moves said Smith, Mapes and Gordon would help "boost [Delta's] global brand
presence."
SS&K is agency of record. Delta spent $29.3 million in measured media last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence.
