SEM Review Live

We rounded out the day's sessions with a review of live sites. I teamed up with Patrick Garrett from Outrider and we tackled 4 sites volunteered by the audience. It was interesting to see how this has evolved over the number of years I've done this. It used to be that everyone was obsessed with SEO tricks, and often the sites we looked at were a hodgepodge of poorly implemented SEO tactics that screamed of spam. That wasn't the case yesterday. Usability advice was the majority of what we dished out, and as I said on a number of occassions, if you optimize for users, in most cases the search engines come along for the ride. The most common issue I saw was a lack of user-centric design. Sites were built to match corporate objectives, not the user's.
