May revenues for Media General's Interactive Media Division rose 43.1% year-over-year, outpacing a 31.3% increase for the Broadcast Division. The Publishing Division saw a 12.8% decrease. Overall revenues for the company were up 2.8%.

The Southeastern media giant said the interactive revenues of $2.9 million included:

  • A tripling of national/regional ads as a result of strong volume from national networks, especially in the auto and telecommunications categories, and mostly on Tampa's TBO.com.
  • A more than tripling in Sales from the division's Blockdot advergaming business.
  • A decline of 11.2% in online classifieds, partly offset by a new employment initiative with Yahoo HotJobs.
  • Increases in page views and visitor sessions of 24% and 31% respectively, including the Web sites of four NBC affiliates acquired last June.
  • A 43.1% rise in local ad sales, excluding those new NBC station sites
