Verizon Gets Hachette Content

Mobile content produced by the digital arms of Hachette Filipacchi's flagship publications will be made available to Verizon customers via Verizon Wireless Mobile Web 2.0 service, the companies announced Thursday. The agreement includes specially created mobile content from Elle, Elle Girl, Car and Driver, and Premiere.

To access the mobile Web sites, Verizon customers simply visit the "entertainment" category on their phones, click "more," and select "magazines." Premiere's mobile content can also be accessed via the "movie" subheading under "entertainment." Once there, they can bookmark the site to make visiting it even faster in the future.

Elle's mobile content features style advice, including "fashion essentials," runway and model coverage, and shopping guides. It also features lifestyle content like love advice and horoscopes. Elle Girl offers similar features, as well as more magazine-specific features such as celebrity gossip and interviews. Premiere's mobile content includes movie and DVD reviews, breaking entertainment news, coverage of red carpet events, and behind-the-scenes looks at filmmaking. Car and Driver's mobile site features car news and reviews, road tests by the magazine editors, previews of new models, and coverage of auto shows.

Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 service costs $5 a month, plus air-time fees.

The agreement represents another expansion of Hachette's digital distribution, an important part of the company's strategic reorganization under the leadership of President and CEO Jack Kliger. In April, Hachette announced the acquisition of JumpStart Automotive Media, an online ad network, for $110 million. Executives at parent company Lagardere SCA have hinted that more digital acquisitions are possible over the next several years.
