Steve Ballmer says the time is fast approaching when everyone in the marketing organization will need to be fluent in digital media to compete effectively. His advice is to keep the talent coming in
by hiring new people every year out of college who have been spawned on digital media and have a more open attitude to media. Those people will become the trainers and the evangelists for the rest of
the organization.
Meanwhile, he opened his keynote on "Embracing Disruption" with a wistful memory of his only job other than Microsoft. He worked as an assistant brand manager at P&G before
joining Microsoft 27 years ago. Back then, he recalled, word processors by and large didn't even exist.
