Some programmers, notably Viacom, may be battling with YouTube about posting content there, but not Oprah Winfrey's empire. Her Harpo Productions has reached a deal with the Google-owned site to offer
a range of content linked to Oprah's flagship show on a devoted channel.
At the heart of the channel appears to be an "Oprah Cam" that will peer behind the scenes inside the green
room, elsewhere backstage and offer other highlight moments featuring guests. On one level, it offers a peek into the massive effort to get the show going daily.
"We are excited to be working with
YouTube to provide another platform for people online to communicate with us and share in some of the one-of-a-kind experiences that occur behind-the-scenes at 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,'" said Tim
Bennett, president of Harpo Productions.
No doubt partially as a promotional effort, YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" tomorrow, partly to discuss
their rise from obscurity and the YouTube phenomenon.
Oprah's show and Harpo are partly under the aegis of CBS television, which has a content deal with YouTube, paving the way.
