Is Search Recession-Proof?

Yes, according to Joe Charlson, SVP and CMO of Education Management Corp.

"Mortgage lenders may be failing, but their competitors will move right in on the same search terms," said Charlson. He added that the upcoming elections will boost search spending as well. "We're not seeing a slowdown in search," said Roger Barnette, President of SearchIgnite. "Marketers are moving more of their budget to the search channel. And in uncertain economic times, marketers are more comfortable with measurable channels, and a medium that they can change spending in, relatively instantly." So while Barnette said that search may not be completely "recession-proof" it's likely stronger than other forms of advertising.
