More than 2.6 billion mobile ticket transactions amounting to nearly $87 billion will be delivered to 208 million mobile users by 2011, according to a new study.
The report by
Juniper Research found that the mobile ticketing business is gearing up for major launches in the next few years as early trials evolve into commercial services controlled by the ticketing issuers
such as Ticketmaster and Tickets.com.
Benefits for issuers include lower costs and better security, as well as having a smaller environmental impact by producing fewer paper tickets. The airline
industry alone is expected to save $500 million annually by adopting mobile boarding passes.
