Overstock.com Sues NY Over New Web Tax Law

  • June 2, 2008
Online retailer Overstock.com has asked a New York state court to rule that a new New York tax law is unlawful.

The law, which went into effect Saturday, requires e-commerce sites with in-state ad affiliates to collect 8.75% sales tax from state residents. Last month, Overstock.com told its New York affiliates that it would stop using them by June 1 because of the new law.

Amazon.com recently filed a similar lawsuit in New York.
