The March MeasureCast Internet Radio Report shows that Clear Channel Worldwide's 198 on-line AM and FM stations streamed 4,873,030 hours, making it the most-listened to Web radio network measured by MeasureCast. The WARP Radio network of AM and FM stations secured second place by streaming 2,707,351 hours. The top 10 streaming radio networks delivered a combined total of 17,758,934 programming hours in March, up from 11,555,369 hours streamed in February, and 12,738,552 hours delivered in January.
Virgin Radio: Top Web Radio Station
U.K.- based Virgin Radio, which took second place in the MeasureCast February Top 50T stations ranking, won the top spot in March by streaming 1,248,404 hours of programming to 163,307 people. JazzFM, which ranked first in February and second in March, enjoyed the largest audience, streaming its entertainment to 212,960 listeners. Seattle's KING-FM took third place by streaming 560,193 hours (up from 527,690 hours streamed in February) to 64,393 people.
MeasureCast measured 1,414 Internet radio stations in March - 61 more stations than it measured in February, and 218 more stations than it measured in January. These on-line broadcasters streamed a combined total of 27,783,465 hours of music, news, and talk programming to some 3,359,283 people worldwide.
March Demographic Highlights
The majority of people listening to stations measured by MeasureCast in January were in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Mexico. In the U.S., 32% of listeners were in the South, while 29% were in the West. 20% resided in the Northeast, and 19% in the Midwest. 58% of listeners were under 35 years of age, 28% were younger than 25, and 6% were over 55. The largest single age group listening to Internet radio was 25-34 year-olds (29%). 76% of all Internet radio listening occurred between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific. 31% of Internet radio listeners were women. The peak listening hour was 8 a.m. Pacific. The peak listening day was Tuesday, March 26, with 5% (681,741 hours) of all listening taking place on this day. The day of least listening was Sunday, March 10, with only 1% of the month's listening. 13% of total Internet radio listening took place on weekends.
