Internet Radio Stations Stream More Hours

The number of people listening to streaming audio over the Internet increased for the second week in a row, according to the MeasureCast Internet Radio Report for the week of April 30 to May 6.

The MeasureCast Internet Radio Index for the week ending Sunday, May 6 increased by 2%, rising from 135 to 138. This represents a 38% increase in the total number of hours streamed by on-line broadcasters since January of this year. The week before (April 23-29), the index rose 2.4%. The index tracks the total number of hours streamed by on-line broadcasters, and is a representation of the trend in Total Time Spent Listening (TTSL) across a spectrum of stations measured by MeasureCast.

The MeasureCast Weekly Top 25 ranking shows that 16 of last week's top 25 stations experienced an increase in TTSL, while 19 broadcasters saw their estimated audience size, or CUME, grow. Significant increases in TTSL were made by BigRadio.com's WOLF-FM.com (up 20%); Cable Music Network's Hot 100 (up 18%); and Oneplace Communications' KRLA-AM/870 (up 14%).

Other facts:

- 81% of all listening occurred between 5 a.m. PDT and 5 p.m. PDT.

- The peak listening hour was noon PDT, with 8% of the day's listening.

- The second highest listening hour was 8 a.m. PDT.

- Peak listening day occurred on Thursday, with 20% of all TTSL occurring on this day.

- Listening on Saturday and Sunday accounted for 11% of all TTSL.

- The largest single age group listening to Internet radio is comprised of people in the 25-34 year-old age group (29%)

- More men (71%) listen to Internet radio than do women (29%)
