Verizon Renews Yahoo Portal Pact

  • September 4, 2008
Verizon Communications and Yahoo have signed a new multi-year deal under which Yahoo's portal will be the first offered to users of Verizon's FiOS and DSL broadband Internet services. The new pact extends a 2005 partnership between the companies.

Under the deal, customers who choose the Verizon-Yahoo portal will get Yahoo Search and co-branded e-mail, instant messenger and toolbar applications. The companies will share ad and e-commerce revenue from the portal.

The agreement covers only Verizon's Internet services. News reports last month indicated that Verizon Wireless was close to striking a deal with Google to be its main mobile search provider. But no formal agreement has been announced yet. Yahoo also offers mobile search as well as mobile versions of its most popular applications.--Mark Walsh
