AdMob: 35 Million Ads Served On iPhone

  • September 9, 2008
Mobile ad network AdMob said Monday it served 35 million ads on the iPhone in August after launching a series of ad units tailored to the popular Apple device in late July.

The ads have generated 100 million impressions worldwide and delivered triple the average click-through rates for mobile ads generally, according to AdMob. Brands using the company's iPhone ad units to date include EA Mobile, Herbal Essences, Universal Studios, Toshiba and CBS News.

Companies that have developed free applications for the iPhone including Loopt, Tap Tap Revenge and BubbleWrap, have also started incorporating ads into their apps. Under a $1 million contest AdMob kicked off in July to encourage the creation of iPhone apps, the mobile network awarded $5,000 in free advertising each to developers including Loopt, Stitcher, Tapulous, Pandora and iRovr.

Developers can continue to apply for the ongoing competition though the AdMob site. Overall, the company serves more than 3.5 billion mobile text and display ads a month.--Mark Walsh
