'House' Keeps Tuesday Healthy For Fox

Fox's HouseAgainst stronger competition, Fox Tuesday ratings fells somewhat versus the week before. But the drop was not enough to take away a Fox win for the second night of the new season.

At 8 p.m., "House" pulled in fewer viewers versus the week before, with a Nielsen preliminary 5.0 rating/14 share versus a 5.6/16. But it was the night's winner among 18-49 viewers. New show "Fringe" took in a 4.2/10 following "House," but it was down from a 5.2/13 the week before. All that gave Fox a 4.6/12 on this particular Tuesday.

Well behind Fox was ABC (at 3.8/10), followed by CBS (3.3/9), NBC (3.2/8), Univision (1.6/4) and CW (1.2/3).

ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" earned a big 4.5/11 in the 9 p.m. hour and a 5.0/13 in the 10 p.m. hour, both of which won their respective time periods. But the network lost ground earlier in the evening with a 1.9/5 for its new traveling game show "Opportunity Knocks."

CBS was next, up against some heavyweight shows. It had a tough job launching new show "The Mentalist"--which earned a 3.5/9--at 9 p.m. The good news: the show kept all of its "NCIS" 8 p.m. lead-in, finishing third in the time period behind "Stars" and "Fringe." "Without a Trace" had trouble competing at 10 p.m., earning a 2.8/7 behind "Stars" and NBC's "Law & Order: SVU."

NBC lost some steam week-to-week with "Biggest Loser: Families" sinking to a 2.6/7 from a 2.9/8 the week before at 8 p.m. The 9 p.m. hour for "Loser" was about the same, with a 3.4/8 from a 3.4/9 the week before. "SVU" earned a sturdy 3.8/10 in its premiere.

CW lost some 21% for another week of "90210," with a 1.9/6 among its core 18-34 viewers. (It also fell 17% among 18-49 viewers). CW's other new rich teen drama show "Privileged" also fell more dramatically against its 18-34 viewers--21% to a 1.3/4 and only 1.9 million overall viewers, the most thinly viewed show (apart from MyNetworkTV) for any of the broadcast networks.
