CW Sunday Has Rough Start

CW's decision to sell off its Sunday night programming block may have been a prudent move. Its new CW TV producer, Media Rights Capital, earned CW-like low viewer numbers.

Media Rights Capital averaged just under 1 million viewers--950,000--for its trio of new shows: "In Harm's Way," "Valentine" and "Easy Money."

"Harm's Way" only pulled in 676,000 viewers; "Valentine" took 1.1 million, and "Easy Money" was at 1.08 million. Overall, CW earned a 0.4 rating/1 share among 18-49 viewers, and the same numbers--0.4/1-- for CW's core 18-34 viewers. Those demo numbers were only one-third of Univision, which took in a 1.2/3 for the night.

Leading Sunday night, ABC reclaimed the night from NBC, which won a week ago--but just barely. "Desperate Housewives" was the best prime-time-rated program of the night among 18-49 viewers, earning a 5.8/13--down 17% in ratings from a week ago. The "Housewives" partner in crime, "Brothers & Sisters," also slipped from a week ago to a still- solid 4.0/10.

ABC ended the night with a 4.1/10 among 18-49 viewers, tying NBC in that area. But overall, ABC pulled in 11.8 million viewers to NBC's 10.7 million.

NBC took in another healthy 5.2 rating/13 share for its game between Pittsburgh and Jacksonville. Football also gave the network a strong second-place spot among 18-34 viewers, with a 3.8/10.

CBS had a strong night--among all viewers, reaching 13.9 million. Among 18-49 viewers, it pulled in just three-tenths of a rating point behind ABC and NBC with a 3.8/9.

CBS benefited from a 7.1/21 NFL football overrun, which in turn lifted "60 Minutes" to a 4.0/11 among 18-49 viewers in its first half hour and a 4.2/11 in its second half hour.

Fox was at the back of the pack when it came to 18-49 viewers--just a 3.0/8. But that's not its wheel-house on Sunday. It comes from young viewers, which it won with a 3.8/10, thanks to its slew of animated comedies.

"Family Guy" won the 9 p.m. time period among 18-34 viewers with a 5.4/14. At 8 p.m., "The Simpsons" grabbed a 4.5/13 among 18-34 viewers, leading that demo group.

Two hours' worth of "Sangre de Mi Sangre", from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Univision brought in a 1.2/3 among 18-49 viewers.
