Ion Gets 'Magic,' Adds New Shows

Brandon Burgess of ION NetworkAfter upgrading its lineup of off-network fare, the Ion network is turning to a familiar programming source: abroad. The newly rebranded network has acquired the rights to a sci-fi miniseries that is run in Britain.

However, the four-hour miniseries will not air as one. "The Color of Magic" will be telecast in its entirety on Sunday, Nov. 23. RHI Entertainment is the producer; "Magic" debuted on British channel Sky One in March.

Ion, which targets 25- to-54-year-olds, has added re-airs of "Boston Legal," "CSI" and "NCIS" to its schedule, with "Ghost Whisperer" and "Criminal Minds" set for 2009. It also has a new deal with Warner Bros. to air 27 films that runs through 2010.

Its re-brand includes a new logo and the "Positively Entertaining" tagline, supported by an ad effort.

Ion Media Networks operates 60 local stations and two multicast channels to go with the flagship network. The company went private early this year.

As it seeks to grow ad revenues, it will move its headquarters to New York from South Florida next year.
