Federal Communications Commission chair Kevin Martin Wednesday said he supported the use of "white spaces," or the unused TV airwaves, for wireless broadband.

Google, Microsoft and other tech companies have been pushing for the FCC to approve the use of white spaces for Wi-Fi. But broadcasters have argued that doing so might interfere with TV signals. Other groups that currently use wireless mics, including Broadway theaters and some churches, also oppose the plan.
