Google released an application Wednesday that lets people see ancient Rome in 3D. The Ancient Rome 3D layer in Google Earth, in cooperation with the Rome Reborn Project, lets people visit Rome to
Calcutta as it was 1,688 years when rules by Emperor Constantine. The project offers a look at more than 6,700 buildings.
Along with the application, Google launched a competition for
educators. The Ancient Rome 3D Curriculum Competition is open to teachers of kindergarten through-12th-grade students in the United States. The search engine will accept curricula from teachers in all
subject areas, including art history, math, social studies, physics, and philosophy.
Teachers submitting the top six examples, alone or in teams, will be honored as rockstar Google educators.
Prizes include Apple MacBook laptop, digital classroom projector, digital camera, 3D Navigation mouse, $500 in gift cards to Target or Office Depot, and an engraved Google "Top Educator" plaque.
Submissions are due by Feb. 9, 2009.--Laurie Sullivan
