Mobile ad network Verve Wireless has added the
Chicago Sun-Times, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Time Out Chicago, Time Out New York and Metro International to its roster of more than 140 local
publishers.
Encinitas, Calif.-based Verve said its local mobile network now covers the top 200 designated market areas (DMAs) across the country.
Verve on Wednesday also
unveiled a new mobile couponing application that allows publishers to offer their advertisers a new way to reach customers. Through the application, advertisers can send out mobile coupons based on
various options including time of day, a user's location, or a particular neighborhood, among others.
The popularity of mobile and online coupons has been growing lately as a result of the
economic downturn. A report issued Tuesday by Nielsen Mobile said cell phone subscribers can expect to see increasing text-message marketing, including for mobile coupons and rewards programs. Verve
hopes to take advantage of that trend with its couponing app while also driving more traffic into marketers' stores.--Mark Walsh
