Yahoo Makes Upgrades To Open Strategy

  • December 16, 2008
Yahoo on Monday unveiled upgrades to its Open Strategy, which is aimed at opening up the site to third-party developers and other content and service providers.

The enhancements include a "smarter inbox" for Yahoo Mail that sorts incoming mail by priority and allows users to see status updates from friends connected through Yahoo's universal profile service. The new mail offering also allows outside companies to offer communication applications within the navigation panel.

In My Yahoo, users can now add third-party applications to personalized pages. And the new Yahoo toolbar rolling out next year will include new apps for checking email, alerts on friends' updates within the Yahoo network, and personalized search suggestions based on sites that a user has visited in the past.

The new features also include the ability to share activity updates within the Yahoo Music and Yahoo TV sections.--Mark Walsh
