Verizon Encourages Direct Network Access

  • January 13, 2009
Verizon is offering pricing incentives to online movie services and other content providers to connect directly to its network.

The company's new Partner Port Program is intended to boost the quality of broadband service for end users. By directly accessing Verizon's Internet backbone, video suppliers can bypass typical peering arrangements that can slow down the content delivery process.

While providing faster connections to customers, Verizon said it would "not prioritize any content delivered over the Internet" or stop customers on other broadband networks from accessing material delivered to Verizon's network under the program.--Mark Walsh
