Facebook just debuted a new logo, which, to the untrained eyes, looks a lot like its old logo. “There are multiple changes that, although perhaps considered subtle by the Facebook team, heavily affect the appearance of the new wordmark,” the design pros writing for Brand New blog write. “The problem is that, for lack of a better thought, it does not compute.”

Google is in hot water after its Photos app mistakenly tagged the pictures of several black people as “Gorillas.” “We’re appalled and genuinely sorry that this happened,” a company spokeswoman tells The Wall Street Journal. “There is still clearly a lot of work to do with automatic image labeling, and we’re looking at how we can prevent these types of mistakes from happening in the future.”

Facebook is reportedly exploring its music options with a number of major labels. “Facebook has spoken with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group about its interest in music, but to what extent the social network wants to get involved is still up in the air,” The Verge reports. “While the popular assumption may be a streaming service, sources say that Facebook hasn't yet decided precisely what it wants to do.”

Google is giving Gmail users a new selection of stock photos and theme options to beautiful their inboxes. According to Gizmodo: “You’ve been able to upload your own photos to a custom Gmail theme for years, but now there are hundreds of standard images to choose from instead, which is useful for those of us who are too lazy to fully customize.”
Guardian
Dick Costolo blames Twitter’s hasty IPO for his downfall. “The outgoing chief executive … said he underestimated the pressures that going public would place on the company,” The Guardian reports. “While Twitter had grown revenue by 97% year on year to $1.7bn … the pressure placed on the company obscured its other achievements in bringing 302 million monthly active users on to the service.”
