Apple is reportedly developing display technologies in a new production lab in Taiwan. “The Apple building in Longtan has at least 50 engineers and other workers creating new screens for devices including iPhones and iPads,” Bloomberg Businessweek reports, citing sources. “Apple began operating the lab this year as it aims to make products thinner, lighter, brighter and more energy-efficient.”

Samsung reportedly plans to add a pressure-sensitive display and a new high-speed charging port to its coming line of flagship smartphones. “The South Korean technology company is also considering adding a retina scanner to some versions of the flagship device,” The Wall Street Journal reports.

Yahoo just debuted a new “Yahoo Video Guide” app for mobile devices that “acts as one central location for users to find content from across a long list of competitive video services and networks,” 9To5Google reports. “The app allows users to search from one place and then offers links to buy or start streaming the content in other apps like Amazon, Netflix, HBO GO, and many others.”

Tumblr is integrating support for sharing of Live Photos in its iOS app. Now, “You can share a Live Photo to Tumblr just like a standard photo,” 9To5Mac reports. “When browsing Tumblr, you’ll recognize Live Photos by the same standard icon in the top right corner … iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users can 3D Touch (press the display firmly) to animate the photo and hear audio playback.”
Android Police
The next iteration of Google’s Wallet will let users send money to anyone in their contacts list, so long as they have a valid phone number. “The new feature works by sending a secure link over SMS to the contact you select, which leads to a web page where your contact can enter their debit card details to claim the money,” Android Police reports. “Google says, once transferred, funds should be available in the recipient's account ‘within minutes.’”

With the latest update for its Android and iOS apps, Flipboard has added Facebook Messenger integration. Now, users can easily share articles with friends in the chat app, The Next Web reports. “Using the share sheet in the Flipboard app, you can now send a link directly to someone on Messenger,” it notes.

Verizon plans to start testing “sponsored data,” which Re/code calls “the equivalent of toll-free calling for the Internet age.” Sponsored data should let consumers access certain content without it cutting into their data plans. By next year, the feature is expected to be available to all content partners at an affordable rate.

YouTube will now features trending videos on its iOS and Android apps. “The Trending tab lets you see viral videos ‘as they take off,’ Venture Beat reports, citing a post from YouTube’s Kevin Allocca. “Google Trends launched a similar tool last year.”

Wal-Mart is set to become the first U.S. retailer to offer its own in-store payment feature. “Walmart Pay will be introduced in select U.S. stores on Thursday and in additional stores after the holiday season,” Reuters reports. “The free service, integrated into the retailer's app, will be available nationwide by the first half of 2016.”

Instagram users with Android phones can now long press on an image thumbnail to zoom in on it, Android Police reports. This feature was previously available to iPhone owners. “Dragging their finger away from the center of the image shrinks it back down to thumbnail size, and moving over one of the buttons under the picture lets them like or share it without ever having to lift their finger,” AP notes.
