Murdoch: Papers Need To Charge Online

  • April 3, 2009
Rupert Murdoch Thursday called on the news industry to switch to a pay model for distributing its online content. Murdoch, who's News Corp. publishes the The Wall Street Journal, one of the few newspapers that successfully charge for its content online, predicted more papers would have to convert from free, ad-supported online publishing models if they are going to survive. "People reading news for free on the Web, that's got to change," Murdoch asserted during a speech at the cable TV industry's annual Cable Show in Washington, DC.
