Sears has launched two new sites -- Sears.com/green and Kmart.com/green -- to help consumers reduce their carbon footprint, room by room.

The Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based retailer hopes to build on its reputation as the leading retailer of Energy Star-qualified appliances, offering such advice as energy-saving tips by climate zone, laundry (wear jeans three times before washing then use cold water) and gardening (use boiling water to kill weeds between pavers, not chemicals.)--Sarah Mahoney
