Ted Turner, a former vice chairman, would like to return to Time Warner in the top spot.

In an interview airing this morning on Bloomberg Television, he says: "I'd like to see me running Time Warner."

However, he says his efforts to bring about "nuclear disarmament and global climate change" might mean he's too busy for the job.

Specifically, Turner added that he'd like to regain control of CNN and Cartoon Network. The latter would give him a platform for his work, where he could place a series starring "Captain Planet" -- a character he co-created to inform kids about the importance of the environment -- in prime time.

"If I had the Cartoon Network and I had control of it, I'd put "Captain Planet" on at a top time period so that kids would see the environmental superhero instead of just Superman," he says.

Turner did not seek reelection to the Time Warner board in 2006. He had held a place on it since selling his cable network business to the company 10 years earlier.

On Bloomberg, he also said he's in touch with News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch, dropping him a recent note telling him he is "doing a good job at The Wall Street Journal." Turner is ranked as the 196th wealthiest American by Forbes, with a net worth of $1.8 billion.
